Monitor Residence
RESIDENTIAL DESIGN - MINIMAL FOOTPRINT - ADU
Monitor, Washington
Nestled in the heart of the picturesque Wenatchee River Valley, the 1,200-square-foot Monitor Residence is a modern interpretation of cabin living. Designed to complement its stunning natural surroundings, this home embraces simplicity, functionality, and a seamless connection to the outdoors.
The cabin's compact and unique footprint maximizes efficiency without sacrificing comfort. An open-concept living, dining, and kitchen area anchors the design on one end, offering a welcoming space for gathering while framing expansive views of the valley. Separated, yet connected through the entry hallway, the other side of this mirrored floorplan offers a more private area with bedroom and bathrooms offering equally stunning views of the neighboring orchards and hillsides.
While efficient in its footprint, thoughtful design details including pitched roofs in both wings with abundant natural light make the space feel larger than its square footage might suggest. A lowered ceiling plane in the entry hallway connecting these two wings further accentuates this feeling of spaciousness when entering the more expansive wings. And a sneak peak through the front door and window beyond offer a glimpse of the views to come.
Peaked and metal clad rooflines take into consideration the elements in North Central Washington as well as evoke a very cabin-like feeling. Outdoor spaces, including a covered patio, extend the living area and invite year-round enjoyment of the surrounding landscape. The Monitor Residence is a testament to the idea that good design transcends scale, offering a refined, purposeful retreat in one of Washington's most beautiful regions.
